Electric E

THE new Mercedes-Benz EQE has been revealed to the world and as its name implies it’s something of an E-Class for the electric age. While it doesn’t replace its internal combustion sibling just yet, the writing is certainly on the wall.

The Mercedes-Benz EQE is the second model, after the larger EQS, built around the company’s new EAV2 architecture.

This means that unlike the smaller Mercedes EQA, EQB and EQC models, which are built around adapted versions of the existing internal combustion car platforms, the EQE has been spawned from an architecture that’s dedicated to electric vehicles. | IOL Motoring

Tesla

ELON Musk recently signalled a one-year delay in the shipment of the Roadster sports car to 2023, citing global supply chain bottlenecks.

Musk had in January hinted that the Roadster, originally set to be launched last year, would be released late in 2022.

According to The Verge, he blamed the ongoing supply chain shortages for the long timeline.

“This year (2021) has been the year of super crazy supply chain shortages, so it wouldn’t matter if we had 17 new products, as none would ship,” Musk wrote on Twitter.

Retiring

KIMI Raikkonen says he has “no complaints” about his time in Formula One after announcing he will retire from the sport at the end of the season.

Last weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix was the 345th race entry of the Finn’s career, the highlight of which was winning the 2007 world championship for Ferrari.

“I had a good run, I’m happy with what I achieved,” said Raikkonen.

“Obviously you want to win and it’s not easy to win. I wanted to win a championship, I got close quite a few times and managed to win it with Ferrari, so happy that it happened, especially with them … and I had fun.” | AFP

All-electric

IT’S official. The iconic Gelandewagen will survive the electric era and the new Mercedes-Benz Concept EQG, which was revealed at the IAA Munich motor show, shows us what to expect.

Although technically it’s a concept car, Mercedes describes it as a nearproduction study of the upcoming allelectric G-Class.

The Concept EQG is evidently based around the same rugged ladder-frame architecture as the regular MercedesBenz G-Class, but there are some notable design differences, including an illuminated panel that replaces the grille.
