INVESTMENTS

Despite significant market volatility, assets under management in local collective investment schemes (unit trusts and exchange traded funds) moved back above R3 trillion in the third quarter after dropping to R2.98 trillion in the second quarter. Statistics for the quarter and year ended September 30, released this week by the Association for Savings and Investment South Africa (Asisa), also show that the industry attracted inflows of R39 billion in the third quarter, bringing net inflows over 12 months to R121 billion. Sunette Mulder, Asisa’s senior policy advisor, notes that the inflows (consisting of dividends reinvested and new money) were the strongest reported by the industry since the fourth quarter of 2020 and were achieved in a volatile environment.
