IT HAS been 20 years since Volkswagen unleashed the Golf R32, which is the oldest ancestor of today’s Golf R. To celebrate the occasion the German carmaker is releasing a special edition Volkswagen Golf R called the “20 Years” edition.

The technical details had not been released at the time of writing, but Autocar reports that the “20 Years” edition will have more power than the eighth-generation Golf R that it’s based on. According to the British publication, the new edition will be good for 245kW, which is 10kW more than the regular Golf R produces.

Jeep bakkie

IT’S been a bit of a wait, but the Jeep Gladiator bakkie is finally on course for South Africa, with Stellantis recently confirming a launch date in late June.

The Gladiator is something of a Swiss army knife on wheels. As with the Wrangler SUV it’s based on, the Jeep Gladiator can be ‘stripped’ in multiple ways. Owners can fold down the windscreen, remove the doors and lower the soft top for a truly open-air experience.

Local pricing and specifications have yet to be confirmed, but we do hope the 3.0-litre turbodiesel option will be made available. | IOL Motoring
