NEXT weekend, art and crafts lovers can go on an “arts bar hop” in Florida Road.

The inaugural Art Bar Festival is an interactive event showcasing visual arts and crafts at the Florida UIP space, 211 Florida Road (corner Florida and Gordon roads) taking place on June 4 and 5.

It provides a platform for people to trade, sample, view and interact. A series of “bars” or display areas will be available, trade-show style, to bring art makers and the public together.

Among the art on display will be bead work, décor items, wire/ telephone wire art, ceramic work, leather work, fabric art, recycled material, crochet work and DIY art.

Opening the festival on Saturday at 9am will be master beadmaker Hlengiwe Dube who will speak about “The Secret of Beads”.

Other sessions include music and performance items, catwalk sessions showcasing accessories, live drawing for adults and children, a pottery demonstration by Sbonelo Luthuli, and a drumming session by Drum Shack.

The festival is presented by the eThekwini Business Support Tourism and Market Unit, Durban Art Gallery and Florida Rd UIP. Entry is free.
