NEARLY seven years after her murder, the family of Shannon Lee Roberts can finally hope for justice against the man they believe killed her, with the extradition of Dylan Taljaard from Uruguay, where he was arrested last week.

The story of the investigation into Roberts’ murder is, unfortunately, one of police incompetence, with nobody questioning Taljaard, although he was the person she had left for when she went missing and her body was later found. justice.

Coincidentally, the Guptas also decamped from South Africa to Dubai in 2016, bringing a halt to any hopes of hearing them answer for the myriad charges of corruption against them.

However, five years later, those hopes were raised again recently when it was announced that the United Arab Emirates had ratified an extradition treaty with South Africa.

South Africans also eagerly await the extradition from Malawi of charismatic preacher Shepherd Bushiri and his wife, wanted here on fraud and money-laundering charges.

Unfortunately the incompetence and tardiness which allows suspected criminals to flee prosecution appears to be a theme which runs through the South African justice system.
