FUNGUS INFECTIONS IN INDIA
AMID a devastating second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, India is seeing a surge of “black fungus” infections among Covid-19 patients and survivors. Health experts said Mucormycosis (black fungus) is caused by exposure to mucor mould found in soil and plants. It affects the lungs, nasal tract and sinuses and has a fatality rate of 50%. Doctors said it was exacerbated by steroids, such as dexamethasone, used to treat severe Covid-19. | African News Agency (ANA)
