$600m SUEZ CANAL CLAIM

THE insurers of container ship Ever Given, which blocked Egypt’s Suez Canal in March, have rejected a reduced claim amount, saying it is still too high, news website Unilad reported this week. It said the ship’s insurers insisted they could not agree to the $600 million (R8.4 billion) claim from the Suez Canal Authority, which was reduced from an initial $916m demand. The canal is a major source of income and strategic power for the country. | African News Agency (ANA)
